There's a quest in the PTR about a Tauren saying they've ignored the sun, and talks about making a new type of warrior that worships it, and the highborne go to Darnassus to discuss the mages allying with the Night elves again.
It's a shitty explination, but it's there.

Well, it's explained, but it's not changed. It's exactly the same powers as if they got the powers from the Light, which just makes it half-arsed. That's for the tauren bit.

I'm honestly mostly underwhelmed by most of these changes.
The only thing that's interesting to me is that they're gutting talent trees or something and having this Path of the Titans crap, which... sounds suspiciously like AA points from EQ from the limited material I've read on it. And that's horrible if so.
New races are meh. I'll probably still play dedicatedly as long as Thrall is still leader of the Horde. If they pull lorelol and actually have him hand over the reins to Garrosh, a guy who has shown on multiple occasions that he is one sip of Mannoroth short of going insane with bloodlust, I'm faction switching my DK to Alliance.
Kind of wish Gnomes got Paladins. I think gnomes are the least class-populated race after this expansion. They have one healer, the Priest, while their alter-egos the Tauren have every single one (Druid, Shaman, Priest, and Paladin).

Further proof that no matter what happens, tons of people will bitch and moan.
Also, about the complaint of no new ally shaman: Dwarves are getting that.
There are very few complaints I have about all this (which will likely get me to resub and Erin and I might both play to level some Goblins or something). Those being that I'm not entirely sure why Draenai Warlock was never considered (the reason given was akin to something like "There are too many Draenai as is" and yet Blood Elves, the most populated race in the game, get Warriors? I'd complain about the lack of lore reasoning there, but BE rogues kinda messes with that too (and now Hunters since they lose mana). Its not a major complaint, just an odd one.
I like more Druid races finally, I fucking love the new "old azeroth". Also, no to whoever is thinking that "everyone is forced to buy the new expansion just to play old content now". That's a pretty large and dumb assumption. They are going to be replacing the zones, yes. It will use phasing, but you are right in that they will be straight replaced and not phased in. There will be no visiting the old version. But in doing this, its pretty common sense that they are changing your map files in the client regardless of your expansion setting. New players will be able to take advantage of this entire world revamp with only vanilla, they just can't do it as new races or with new professions.
Deathwing coming back is nice, as is Ragnaros, as is Onyxia raid, as is all that stuff. Desolace, the big boring grey world, suddenly turning all NE style with lots of trees is hilariously ironic.
I'm actually psyched. Yeah, the "hardcore" in me will probably stop playing again after leveling for a bit, but then using this as a good excuse to redo the entire old world just so they can get flying mounts working in the old world is pro. For those that don't know, the reason they couldn't just allow them before is the original design issue.
When the game was first made, this was during the time of EQ and other games featuring load times between outside zones. You had invisible zone walls and if you crossed them, boom, you had load time and a screen, then you got in. The old world was actually advanced for that time in its method of avoiding this, and did similar to fps games with loading on the fly. However, to do this, they created a world that didn't actually fit together, as at the time it didn't seem possible. They had fragments of world that basically said "we only have to design as far as you can see and get to" and you would enter through certain paths which loaded things for you. So (just like SW was at one point till they redid it, thus why the mini map there is weird now) parts of the world technically existed on top of other parts of the world, that just weren't loaded. Think phasing before phasing, in a sense.
Now its dealt with, and to add to it, the Barrens isn't retardedly huge anymore. The quests are going to be much better too, dealing with the fact that all old content is completely boring at this point.

If a Draenei abandons the light, he/she turns into a broken (those nasteh things around Shattrath City).
'Why can they then be death knights?'
Because Blizzard don't care. Also they were forced to become death knights. Most death knights were.
So, new updates to the people, apparently Cataclysm is aiming to change the game to even change old classes' gamestyle. From what I've heard:
Warlocks' Soul Shard system changed. It'll be a value regenerated outside of combat to be used in combat to empower spells in various ways.
Hunter's mana switched out with Focus (Energy).

I wasn't. I just think the changes are great and have seen on various sites things like "omg, this expansion isn't all about warriors? and why is the entire expansion revamping old content when I'm already the top level i want new content this is total bs i'm not giving my money to them for catering to noobs" and rolled my eyes. Of course, any possible liking of what they did and the response is "blizzard fanboy keep holding their sack"
EDIT: No joke, right after that I was reading an article and came across this:

Jesus christ this community is full of uneducated fanboys.
Yes, the "texturing" is what is preventing us from flying in Azeroth.
Fact is this is FAR less work than any other expansion so far... FAR LESS.
I resent that they are retooling the game to encourage leveling characters from 1-80 again, as opposed to deepening max level content and game systems.

NE mages from a lore standpoint=horseshit. Nuff of that.
My only complaint about Worgen is that I'll have to pay to turn a toon into one since I'm not levelling an extra [class].
As for old stuff, I like the idea of revisiting, if for no other reason than that, other than Strat I've seen none of the lvl 60 stuff besides getting my poly book from ZG. Good for people like me who started at or just before BC, and similar with each expansion as the stuff gets older and more people don't see most of the content in instances and the attached lore.
In other good news, I'll have plenty of time to level the last couple of chars to 80 and by then hopefully something interesting will have come out, given my forced casual status.

I think I can swallow everything but Tauren Paladins and Night Elf Mages. Tauren who worship the sun get the same powers (all of a sudden) as Draenei who are directly blessed by Naaru, or Priests who spend years in service to the Church/the Moon?
If that's the case, why aren't Night Elves Paladins? They've got Priests, they've got Warriors.
The Night Elf Mages thing? "Gee, our race and our cousins caused two of the greatest Calamities in history! (Sundering and Sunwell respectively) What could go wrong if we all start playing with Arcane Magic again in the midst of a third Cataclysm? "
Blizzard knows the only thing standing between them and game progression is lore. It's why they fuck it a new asshole every chance they get.

Well, you have to consider how desperate the world would be regardless. It's Armageddon, the Cataclysm, wouldn't you grasp every single weapon you had and fight it off?
Then again, seeing as arcane had been banned, I doubt any night elves would have awesome magic skills knowledge. They'd just be noobs.

The problem with story lines like that is the story is only at end game. Which is fucking retarded. The rest of the world has the same old story with the same old quests. If they wanted to get people interested, change the world retroactively as events happen in the world.
Stormwind Under attack? Sweet jesus Goldshire is blow to shit.
Westfall is the new Stormwind Camp. Shit like that.

Don't worry, haha, I read it.
Either way, it was a joke and yeah, they did do exactly what you mentioned.
