After reading this thread i'm going to put down the book i'm reading and dive headfirst into the Twilight series, and i hope i love it, then i'm going to come back to this thread, necro the shit out of it, and pummel all of you with my opinions about it. Because i know you all care about my opinions as much as i care about yours.

Alright, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I was just somehow missing some site that let's you download them for 3$ or something (similar to downloading books to a Kindle and turning on Text-to-Speech).

Actually, another way to get them is to check them out from your local library, and then rip them.

Yeah, well, I wasn't exactly asking for illegal methods of obtaining them so much as clarifying the method used. Probably better for that discussion to not take place here if taken in that direction

Currently skimming through the Star Wars: Thrawn Trilogy for like the tenth time.

Zahn is fucking badass. I don't know about his other works, but this series of books is gold. You don't have to have read any of the other EU stuff to get into it (I certainly didn't), and his style evokes the feel of the early movies very well. Even if you don't like EU stuff at all, you should give this series a chance.

It's that good, IMO.

Oh, hey, I was actually in one of the local B&N earlier and saw that Zahn did a fourth "Thrawn" book sometime in the past couple years that I didn't know about. I can't recall the name, but to sum it up, its something about the reappearance of Thrawn somehow and them having to group up to handle said re-emergence. Might be worth checking out if I were to reread the trilogy at some point to remember basically anything other than "Mara Jade is such a badass".

Every time one of these threads pops up someone always without fail mentions "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". For someone who hasn't really touched a good book(of any genre) in...jeez must be about a year...what's the appeal of this? I'm iffy because I just googled it and saw that it was written in the 60's and that puts me off a bit. Is it a book that's aged that good or is it just one of those "essentials" everyone has to read at some point because it USED to be relevant?

It's one of those books that feels almost like it could have been written today. It shows its age in areas but in no way that is a detriment. Not to me at least, but I am usually pretty good with 'old' books.

I believe you are referring to the Hand of Thrawn duology. It's a two-book series taking place about 10 years after the original Thrawn trilogy. It consists of the books Spectre of the Past and Vision of the Future.

I liked it, personally. Especially the monologue. I can EASILY see where someone else would (and me as well at times) find it too boring to enjoy though.

Blast from the past. I'm sure it has alot to do with nostalgia but I still really liked it. Every time I look back at Animorphs as a whole I see reflections of what I like in stories today. Its probably one of the most influential bits of entertainment I've expirenced period.

Also, check this out. I've updated it with everything since Feb 09, even though I'm sure I missed a few things, and I plan on continuing to groom it.

Animorphs was just awesome. I always thought the storyline got a bit wonky (even as a teenager) but that didn't really detract from the overall awesomeness.
