I swear, Emily, I'm half tempted to transfer a character to that server and camp your "Astralyn" character entirely for stealing my name.
EDIT: Sadly, it wouldn't be my Shaman doing it, given that, you know, I'd have to change her original creation name.

Camping is fun. It starts shit. Which then leads to entertainment when a group can't bring down me (Healadin), Retadin, and a Enhancement Shaman.

That's not fun. That's fucking retarded.

That's... not entirely always the case. While sometimes people are like "Ugh, stop camping me, guys please help me out of here so I can move on with my life!", I also know a few people who, no matter how much I don't personally, enjoy the sudden pvp change and like the idea of trying to "get back" at the guy that killed them. Then the escalation turns into a giant war and its that whole "my team vs your team" that everyone starts getting into.
I've had the majority of my pvp/gank experience be griefing, but I've also had times where there was massive full alliance vs alliance fights at a summoning stone before everyone enters for the raid, causing this epic struggle for who has control of the stone long enough to get their team into the raid instance first. Then everyone goes to the forums and talks trash or gloats or just cheers at the aspects of it that they enjoyed.
That said, I won't deny the numerous times where an entire guild will just sit around and skip their raid night to repeatedly make a particular character's life hell. Unless of course that was Undersky, who was known to gank every chance he got, post about it on the forums, followed by enormous fake stories of what alignments of the stars happened the times he DID die. He was so notorious about it that his very presence would stop the entire server in its tracks to leap on him, just to see the loads of screenshots and stories that would appear after.

It's a point of view. And I was really stretching when I said "camping" was fun. What we do is we go wreck camps and kill a couple lowbies and keep moving. The goal as I said is to bring 80's to come get us. An example would be when we attack Grom Gol. We level the NPC's and take the Zeppelin to Ogrimmar.

I have to say, camping the boats and zeppelins is always hilariously fun. Its awesome to see if they find a way to evict you. I've climbed on one before and stood around, not even attacking anyone, and watched lowbies get onto it (from inside the boat), then I walk up to the top while its en route, and they'd just spin around and run and jump off the boat, even in mid air.

xD
We got bored and decided to take our 7 man team one night and assault Ogrimmar. Took about 20 minutes before they started bringing out more than 5 people. Then it became a steam roll fest for them.

When WOTLK first came out, I used to ride the lifts at the Howling Fjord and wait for a Horde to get on. Once we were suitably positioned over the water, I'd use Hurricane and blow them off. I pissed myself every time.

Thunderstorm from my Shaman did it too. ONLY reason to be Elemental, it seems. Most hilarious thing I've ever had access to. Whenever I DO play, I go to AB and immediately camp the LM flag, going SSJ at the flag and launching their team everytime they get up there.

You sure as hell wouldn't be saying that if I started just jumping into all your RPs and having Kaden beat up Vad for no actual reason.

I'd almost reopen my account just to do that again.

I addressed that Essentially, there's a subset of people that enjoy that sort of thing (not just the attacking side, but the retaliating side), and they tend to be more abundant on pvp servers. I myself don't often enjoy that, but my friends hold to it that "grinding mobs is boring and I like knowing I can be jumped and pvp at any moment". Personally, I dislike the constant paranoia and lack of efficiency from that thought.

I've yet to see a game where world PvP was well executed. For the most part it is rarely a fair fight and almost entirely pointless.

There is no fair play in World PvP. Why should there be fair play? You don't go for World PvP in an attempt to get a fair fight, that's called a duel. Arranged World PvP can sometimes provide a fair fight but even then fair is a relative term. I don't believe World PvP should ever be completely fair and it is there the fun lies. Not by ganking lowbies but by engaging in battles with players that escalate. Yes, lowbies get ganked but sometimes its' fun and it's not like CC is hard to avoid. It's even a reportable offense to the GMs.

Pff like you'd ever make a character named that on Korgath.

To an extent. No offense, but I found a lot of it to be contradictory. I understand there are some outliers of relatively fun experience, but, as you posted yourself, the large majority of it is bullshit ganking and camping.
Vad Wrote:I don't grief though. I just start shit.
Point of view. (See what I did there?)
You see those as two different things. I see that as someone who can't or won't understand that all they're doing is hiding behind a paper-thin rationalization.
EDIT: That probably reads meaner than it actually is. And, for the record, I know no one's going to change their opinion of what "fun" is.

Not much point of view as two different terms. A camp is a camp. You kill someone, put a flag in their corpse and sit your ass down. This is avoidable by 'clever spawning' (ROLL ROGUE AND STEALTH, DRUIDS ARE TOO SLOW AND NIGHT ELVES' SHADOWMELD SUCKS.)
Griefing would be what Kaden specified with his Kaden vs. Vad example. Someone rezzing by the angel and the ganker just swooped in from up high and beat the living shit out of him repeatingly. This is a reportable offense, as it disrupts another person's gameplay outside the bounds of a PvP server and becomes personal.

Basically what Leo said. I mean, it IS contradictory sounding, but the basic jist is that the people that enjoy both sides of it aren't as rare as one might assume. It would be hard to assume that those that do enjoy the wars that result from getting camped are a minority or exception, as that's what a large amount of people roll on PVP servers to experience, the various forms of world PVP. Sometimes they are on the dishing end, sometimes the receiving end, sometimes its very back and forth. Then there are those people that only roll on PVP servers just because that's where their friends are and they don't particularly get into it very often themselves (ie; me).
