It was a blood transplant between a dude with HIV and the donor, who had a natural resistance to HIV, or something, in Berlin. ![]()

That's absolutely amazing.

The cure is a shotgun, the cure is whatever blunt instrument one can salvage.Whomever finds themselves too proper will be the first to perish. And you know nothing that matters now.[/COLOR]

What ever will the internet users do if AIDS effectively gets removed? "Get aids and possibly die!"? :O

First, yay for stem cells. Good on you, Germany.
Second, boo U.S. This should've been us, earlier, were it not for jackasses trying to turn back the clock of progress. ![]()

pretty sure there's a super poison cocktail that "cures" aids. it's retardedly expensive, uncomfortably high chance of death, and not guaranteed to work, but it's been around for a while.

This is why I hope the motion to have generic nonscientifically educated citizens (to include myself) deciding what scientific projects deserve funding through internet polling fails. I really do. It makes as much sense as asking me to decide what car parts should and should not be included in an automobile for me to get the price down to the $1,000 I'd want to pay. I might end up removing an engine and wouldn't know it because I don't know shit about cars and what the ripple effects of said parts are.

It wasn't a wholesale ban on stem cell research. And this case was a transplant from one adult to another. Where are you guys getting lost at? I'll see your misplaced frusteration of "generic nonscientifically educated citizens" on internet polls and raise you a straight ban against allowing misinformed people to vote at all. :|

leading researchers disbelieve he was actually cured, since the strain of HIV he had could bypass the mutation defense from the stem cell donor, and is merely lacking signs of a relapse for reasons yet unknown.

Considering HIV is also located in spinal fluid and your bone marrow it's difficult to get rid of. I mean it may have temporarily eliminated the effect on his immune system which is the biggest concern, but considering the fragile nature of your spine and everything related I doubt we're ready to tackle that area. Not until we can repair victims of a severed spinal cord.

I watched an episode of Law and Order where this gay guy had AIDs and was ashamed, so he asked his other gay friend to kill him because he couldn't do it. The same guy had done the same thing to 2 other gay guys dying of AIDs. They let the guy off with no charges because he was also dying of AIDs.
