To move the roles discussion back to this thread: I'm actually seriously considering giving John Doe some kind of acknowledged public role (like my tentative plans for the attorneys) so that he doesn't just get lynched for being mafia. 3 times in a row, culminating in being actual Godfather, let's just reflect again on how unlucky that is.

Reporter: During the night phase they're given a list of 2 random people and one mafia(numbers could be tweaked depending on game size and whatever), and told they have to choose one to get lynched, aka as a reporter they sort of have some of the facts, but at the end of the day what they need is a story.

I understand your reasons for quitting, even if I think it's lame not to at least try and keep the game going. The remainder of the game WOULD be pretty skewed against you.

However... what actually annoys me is that you didn't tell me or Shou that you quit, you just stopped replying to PMs. I understand you were frustrated, but I'd expect you to show basic courtesy towards the host, the same I and everyone else gave you when you were running the game. Instead, after waiting all day for you to get back to me with your kill, I had to IM you on Steam to find out you had no intention of playing anyway.

The game was over after Ashe's death. Flat-over. Prance it up with 'well, mafia could STILL win' all you want, but it just won't happen. We didn't have a single power role. And, people were already suspicious of me. If I wasn't lynched on day three, then I would almost be guaranteed to be researched, then lynched on day four. Call it pessimism; this is how the game works.

So, I planned to just quietly quit and let the game continue on; seemed to me to be the least obtrusive way of having things happen. Instead of pouring an hour or two into defending myself and all that, I destressed from my job with LoL, and enjoyed the fuck out of it.

And then you made a post directly addressing the fact that one of the mafia members quit and saying the game is essentially stalled (which essentially proves my earlier point that, with me gone, the game is the ick; when you realize that I'm practically already dead, perhaps my decision becomes more understandable). So, figured I might as well get the jump on people wondering about who quit, who was responsible for this now-announced abomination, whomp whomp whomp

My being quiet about it was to make sure I didn't make any insinuations about you or the way the game was going that would be horribly unfounded. I had a hard time seeing how things going THAT unluckily could be legit, but I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Confronting the issue made my decision less quiet and more public, however.



And so here we are, with Kami chucking out the jabs every other post, and me making long posts explaining why I did what I did, and reading long posts by Ashe about the technicalities of no-lynch.

EDIT: Another reason I was frustrated and didn't want to make a show of it was because I was fully aware people would be assholes, and back-slapping one another, and ego-masturbating up in a luscious whipped fury. We've seen it, to a lesser extent, in a handful of posts in this topic.

'Going down fighting' is a war metaphor. This isn't warfare, nor are any similar stakes on the line.

Choosing not to resign in chess in a clearly lost game is a grievous insult.

Choosing not to resign in LoL in a clearly lost game is a waste of time.

Choosing not to quit in the Mafia game is a waste of time. The game is over. The townspeople win. With full-time job and work obligations kicking up a shit-ton lately (as well as things like, y'know, relaxing and talking to friends and sleeping), it was an easy decision for me.

The people who are so terribly disappointed strike me with all the legitimacy of a person who toys with an opponent in chess to set up the 'perfect checkmate.' Either that, or they are unaware of just how hilariously over the game was.

It's not something I would often recommend, but then, as the statistics play out, what happened in-game isn't something that often happens.

I don't care that you quit, man. I understand and all. I was actually thinking that Rose might have been cheating the system as well for a bit, with the two Mafia dead with no majority thing. Now I see that Kami was just lucky like I was when I was Doctor first day. Sometimes it happens, but it did seem very coincidential. Hell, the Townies have won 3 out of 3 games so far, when 1 out of 3 would seem pretty lucky to me in this format.

So, yeah. I probably would have done something similar if I were in your shoes. That was just a bad situation the Mob found itself in.

I'll always go down fighting. The fact that you quit doesn't bug me. The fact that you have too much going on in your life doesn't bug me. It's perfectly understandable. You think I was going to do any staff work hopped up on Oxycodone and in severe pain after Surgery? Fuck no. Video games and ice cream bitch.

What bothered me (and I didn't mean to come off the way I did) is that you chose to stay silent. Instead of telling Rose your reasons in a PM you just bailed. Which is easily read as being a sore loser or just not having the guts to see something through to the bitter end.
