D-D-D-D-DUELLING thread
#21
If it were that simple, I'd see your point. But some people have both tons of champs and tons of runes because they've been playing for longer. Others have few of each because they've been playing for less time. I mean, I guess some folks consider grinding ability to be a legit skill, but if that's the case you should just look at total earned IP instead of duelling. =P

So you're saying that because someone has been playing longer, it's "not fair"? By the time you get to level 30, you have earned more than enough IP to get some champs and a couple pages worth of runes.

Kole T. Merr Wrote:I didn't say they were playing "wrong". I said that they made a choice, and their choice has consequences. It's the same the other way. If you do nothing but buy runes, you'll never unlock new champions to use them with.

EDIT: I do agree that it should be discussed by the duelers beforehand what is and isn't allowed, but justifying that runes shouldn't be allowed because people "haven't gotten them yet" is a bit silly...IMHO.

We could argue semantics and inferences all day but I think I'll just cut that off here.

I think it is perfectly legitimate that a person would request that the duel is done without runes if they don't happen to have a page that is at all appropriate for their chosen champion. I would hope that if the other player is reasonable, they'd agree to that. After all, the purpose of the duel is to have a FUN test of skill against each other.

Oh and bragging rights. Always need those.

But either way, having an automatic leg-up over the other person kinda defeats the purpose.

Yeah but some people here have played long enough to get to level thirty twice over. Yes, time played (and thus more IP, and thus more Runes. Thus not fair.)

Seeing as I hit level 30 last week, I can tell you that this isn't quite the case and I even bought an IP boost at one stage. I've bought about 5 champs with IP and I have a single rune page +9 extra reds. It sort of depends on what champs you've bought because of price difference.

Moot point anyway since this line of discussion is pretty irrelevant.

And the biggest semantic argument is whether or not "skill" with a champion includes proper runes and masteries. I would not be alone in arguing that it does.

I will say that it is ultimately up to the duelers to decide on their own rules.

That also generally means that we are also more practiced. More time played (for the most part) means better-honed skills. Should we be forced to play at a lower skill level as well?

EDIT: I just realized how elitist that sounded. That was not my intention. My intention was to show that there are always differences in the levels of players' skills, based on time spent playing the game.

This is stupid. Just leave it up to pairs. If you don't want to duel people without your runes, that's your choice and some people will choose not to duel you.

That's that.

I will fully admit that I honestly don't care. I just felt like being argumentative at the moment. Your reasonings just seemed to be the ones that I felt like poking at.

No hard feelings?

...Isn't the point of the duel is that it's a test of skill? You can't reduce skill manually. You cant' CHANGE skill.

You CAN however turn of runes.

A person with 600 wins and a person with 300 wins have different resources at hand in which to make decisions with. In order to make the most even a playing field as possible, you should try and remove or reduce as many of these uneven resources as possible.

The best decision is to agree between duelers, but I don't agree with your prior logic.

You're not really helping me not want to be argumentative. Those two people absolutely have different resources. But isn't skill determined by how well you utilize the resources you have?

Man you guys are annoying to read.

=P

I think runes, items, and masteries are all integral parts of skill with a champion. The "fairness" of it is irrelevant to me.

So you wouldn't be up for a Malz rematch with items, masteries and summoner spells but no runes? D=

Maybe.

Like Teemer said, it's all about choice. I've chosen to play the game more than you and am rewarded by having an advantage in that game. You've chosen not to play the game as much and were rewarded by doing other things with your time.

Wow. I totally figured out why this conversation annoys me. I hope you all realize you were just having the CA discussion about LoL. Time = power. I've put the time in, why should have to lose it because someone else hasn't matched that?

Regardless, I might. If we're talking about fairness, though, why is it fair we do one match with all of your rules and then not a rematch with all of mine?

CA on Chubbs and Runes in LoL is very much apples and oranges.

Also you can say that you've chosen to play more, but it may actually be a case of you starting to play Lol before someone else even heard about the game.

Regardless, this is a really dumb argument because in practice whether runes are used or not will be decided upon between the two people.
