Wrestling
People speaking ill of the dead need to gtfo. It's not like he went on murderous rampages every month; he fucking snapped. None of us have ever snapped, so none of us are in the position to judge.

No one is wrong in saying that an absolutely atrocious crime was committed. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with abhorring a person who, whatever reason, was capable of doing what Benoit did.

Its understandable to view talk like that as disrespectful, but you'll just have to accept that that's how it is.

By far the most contraversal death in the WWE.

I don't see why Benoit should be immune from scorn or why he deserves the level of respect many seem so willing to offer him (though, everyone has a right to respect whomever they wish for whatever reasons they wish). But the guy was a performer... it's not as if he donated millions to charity or saved countless lives. He had a job, which was performing as a "wrestler." You can respect "what he accomplished" if you want, but he made a shit ton of money doing what he did and, in my opinion, he didn't add anything substantial to the world that would merit my lamenting the world's loss of his presence. Again, I'm not attacking those of you who are choosing to remember and respect his career... but he wasn't the pope or anything. He was a freaking wrestler who wrestled and did very little for the world beyond that. So ya'll can respect him if you want, but I'll cast my adoration on someone more deserving. For example, if minister "snapped" and killed his wife and kid, HE should have his life of service honored. But I guess i just don't see what's spectacular about the career of a wrestler who looked out for number 1... he may not have been a blatant prick in public, but is that the measure by which we judge our heroes? If someone works hard, makes money, and doesn't make an ass of themselves in public they deserve our respect even after (allegedly) murdering their child and wife?

Yeah, ya'll can respect him if you want. but I don't see anything worth respecting.

Traveling around the world countless times and entertaining millions of people every week is 'very little for the world'? I'm not trying to dissect your argument or make any less of your opinion, I am generally curious as to why you feel that way.

So you know where I'm coming from: I feel that entertainment does a lot for us, in a sense you could say it makes the good times just that much better, or gives us a little perk when we're experiencing the bad times.

I'd say, then, that you put a higher value on entertainment than I do.

No, you just judge things on different standards.

You can't sit there and belittle the people who respected him and then try to cover it with "I'm not attacking you guys." If you're going to bash on Benoit or the people who still respect him, then just do it and don't insult our intelligence.

I wasn't aware that's how it was. If thats the case, I totally agree with that article.

I'm quite interested to hear Reb's take on that, being a former wrestler and all.

I'm just saying you're entitled to feel how you feel, but I don't see the logic in that feeling. Whether I see the logic in it or not, that doesn't change the fact that i feel it's your right to feel that way, just as it is my right to think you are wrong. i was simply trying to keep it on a less personal level.

Not quite sure I agree with that article, but there is definetly a big coincidence there. It's worth looking into.

A lot of the deaths are for different reasons, but when over 60% are by heart attacks, you have to ask yourself what connects all those deaths. My guess is drugs. Specifically steroids.

I take that to Mean you can feel how you want logic or not. And I don't disagree.

And Burt, I'd most definately agree that a lot of these wrestler deaths have been caused by steroid after effects.

Has anyone read the book that GJ's article mentions?

I'd be interested see what the author has to say, in greater detail.

I haven't, but from what I heard, its supposed to be pretty good. I remember one of Foley's books made a best-sellers list.

It should also be noted: 60+ deaths before the age of 35. Or something... it was on Dr. Phil (rather, Dr. Phil was on Leno).
