Looks good to me. I'll let 20 give the go ahead before I start, however.

Bujin, yeah, brilliant job on taking charge while I wasn't here. The weakness you pointed out hits met yet again, due to the "can't always be online" issue.
But those tasks look good. And you all have convinced me that the character switching issue does need to be addressed. But I think you've made the tasks just a bit too broad. I say we focus everything we have onto working out the character switching issue, and then go after what the problems are that are causing people to switch characters. Like you mentioned in your "dolphin death" breakdown above. We need to make this look professional, well-thought out, and the best it can be. Let's make sure the one issue we're focusing on IS done this way before we start to branch out anymore. So, sorry to switch up your assignments, Bujin, but I want us to revolve entirely around the issue of character switches at first. Here's the things I'd like to compile: 1. How to go about switching characters - A short explanation so that people who don't know how to do this will be able to get the idea, and to avoid the same questions being repeated over and over. It doesn't have to be long, but just explain what they need to go, where to post, and any helpful hints you can think of. 2. Character Switching Penalties - Come up with what we think the new requirements should be, and then put them together in a neat-looking format. 3. Edit the joining page - We don't have to change much here, but simply edit in a note about how the character you choose to start with is the one you should do your best to stick with, and also links to the penalties for switching, so as to help people try to find a character they find suitable, not one that they'll just "use" until a saiyan opens up, like they usually do. Now, here's what I'd like each of you all to do: We need to discuss and come to complete agreement on the penalty changes. Also, if we think the process itself needs to be changed, we need to decide on that as well. Once that is done, I'd like for Zarbon and myself to tackle part #1, Goku Jr and Bujin to handle part 2, and Gohan can take #3. If you object to your assignment, let me know, and I'll do my best to get you switched around. But in the meantime, we need to focus on what we want everything changed to. I'll have my recommendations about the penalties and process of switching characters up in a moment, and also thoughts on how we should merge our ideas into one, solid idea. Sound good? Alright then, let's do this.

I suggest changing ONE thing. If you have more time, do more. But the pace you're going, you guys will have three-four unfinished assignments.
06-29-2006, 12:46 AM
Alright. My suggestion for 2 can be seen in my longer post above when I was answering Goku Jr.
Quote:GJ, your idea is not bad, as it encourages getting it right the first time, but I think you should go farther then just a 10 point increase each time. Keep the score 10 as a base, as that would be good. Think of 10 as the first change. So, it would go like this. For easy access. ![]()

I think we shouldn't have a freebie. The stat reduction makes them think twice.

Yeah, I don't think there should ever be freebies. That's more like telling them that changing the first time is something that you can do, and naturally should do. Sorry, but my vote's against a freebie.
There should still be a stat reduction. Perhaps not as extreme as -25 to all stats the very first time they change, but there still needs to be one there. I like GJ's idea, and the changes Bujin made to it. Each change needs to increase the amount by which stat deductions arise. I'm voting for the first one, where it starts at 10, then goes to 20, then 35, and then 55. There needs to be a clear message that changing characters isn't what you should instantly think you should do. Make it so it's their "out" in the event that they simply can't connect with the character they chose at all. If they just don't like how their character looks or acts in the show or whatever, tough. Make them the way you want. Chubbs is good about giving people the freedom to turn their character into practically anything they want. EDIT: I'm seconding Bujin's second idea, about doubling.
06-29-2006, 01:01 AM
Doubling is a good idea, I'm for it, personally. More simple to follow then mine, since its only doubling, and doesn't require more then one equation (even if they are simple equations). Gohan, GJ? What do you think about this?

Wow.. Remind me never to leave you guys alone for more then an hour >.>
Right, I think the fact that freebies, out the window entierly, like 20 said, would make people THINK they had to do a switch. And I'd say we allow only a certain number of pretained switches. Keeping with the doubling optition, you'll still have people changing up to god knows what. You gotta think, people will wanna change, and if you give them a limit on how many times they COULD change, your making them think more on not just who to be, but why they wanna be them. IMO of course.. And I'm stricken for other ideas >.> Although I dun like the idea of people having constant switches, I can't really talk having switched once my self -.-'
06-29-2006, 01:09 PM
So, are we all in agreement about doubling stat deductions, in the manner posted by GJ above this? If so, then we need to get started on fleshing this out into something professional-looking, and then move onto #1 and then #3.
06-29-2006, 01:15 PM
I guess I agree on it.
06-29-2006, 11:02 PM
Alright, then it's go time. Goku Jr and Bujin, you two seem to have the best grasp about how this is all supposed to work. Can you two possibly put together #2? If you don't want to, or feel the whole group should do it, say so. Zarbon and I will tackle #1 based on the stat deduction system. Gohan, I know it isn't much to do, but I'd appreciate it if you'd handle #3.
Anyone have any changes to make? If so, state them now, we're running short on time, and we need to get all this done on time.

Character Changing: Step by Step
READ THIS FIRST: So, you don't like your character? Feel the need to switch to a character you can connect better to? Or did a more appealing character recently open up? Well, let's clear one thing up before you even consider switching. Switching characters should be your "last resort" when you are roleplaying. This cannot be stressed enough. Only consider changing characters if the one you have now is simply impossible to write about. If you know that the only reason you want to switch characters is because a character of a certain race, say, for example, a saiyan, opened up, then don't. You will be denied flat out. It's one thing to need to change characters, and another to want to switch characters. Here at Chubbs Dragonball Z RPG, you can make your character to be however you would like. Just because they were some unknown character in the actual show doesn't mean they have to be the same here. You can have your character be a hero of the people, a maniacal villain, or you can even make your character a homosexual if you so feel the need. The possibilities are endless. You can even make some minor changes in your character's appearance, if you can back them up with an In-Character reason. The only limits are that your character can't have a major appearance change, change races, or change gender. But beyond that fact, your character is yours to design how you see fit. So, once again, if you find yourself in a position in which you simply cannot write as the character you selected, then please continue onto the steps of how to go about changing your character. Steps: 1. Think twice about your character change. Don?t do anything you won?t regret later. If you are completely sure about changing your character, then proceed to step two. 2. Pick a character you would like to change to, and make sure you are sure about it. The character switching penalty starts low, but can increase quickly. So try to get it right the first time, so you won?t go that far. Think hard about it. 3. Once you have picked a suitable character, make a thread in the Questions/Suggestions/Updates forum about it. Include the following in that post: - The character you are going to change to. - Who they are currently. - Why you wish to change to this character. - That you understand that you will receive a reduction (link to explanation of stat reductions here). 4. After you post that thread, wait for the staff to respond to it. Please be patient, as the staff members have lives. Remember the 72 hour rule that has been set in place. Once they have responded, you may get a few extra questions, but answer them, and you?ll be on your way. 5. Now, it is up for the staff to decide. If they say ?No.? to your request, please do not complain. If they say yes, however, they will handle everything from there. Be patient as your character is changed and stat reductions are put in place. 6. Your character is now changed. ![]()

Looking good you guys. Technically, we've gotten the change itself completed. All we need now is Gohan's thing, and then we can say we completed everything on our checklist. Good job you all.

I'm working on it.. *looks at Megaman game, CV, IM's, and changing thing* I honestly am! >.>

You better be working on it hard.

Joining Information
Thank you for considering joining CDBZ. Before continuing on, it would be suggested to read over the HELP, due to the rules being there. After you think you have a solid grip on these, head over to the forums by clicking the ROLEPLAY link to the right. Head to Joining Board, and make a post there as a Guest. (Registering is useless at this point.)

While I strongly disagree with the character changing information, it's a good job done to unite and decide on what to do with when clearly everyone had a different opinion. I'm happy that you all joined as one and showed good teamwork.
The joining information doesn't look much different then we have now, but it IS a good job. However, I think it's over-shadowed by the good job everyone did with character changing. As it stands: Twenty, Bujin, and Zarbon will all advance. My decision on Gohan and Goku Jr will follow. |
