Semi-Finals, Round 1: Twenty's Team
#21
Ok. That's understandable. How about this. We, as the staff, throw one word or idea at them (i.e. vengenace or machines or something) Then, they have to come up with a saga about the word. This could happen in Flubbs if all of the sagas have been relatively the same and they need something to shake it up. We should make sure that the saga spans most to all of the planets so that we can assign one or two people to a section of it.

Or, we could have each member create a piece of the storyline of the saga. That way we could see which part is weak and we could know who created that part and eliminate them.

For, the updating/moderating task, I don't know much you can do to make running a forum unique. But, I love the idea of having players from opposite teams run the same forum. It sees if they can work together with someone they don't necessarily get along with. Also, we could have a forum switch half-way through. We could have the people running the forums the best switch with the people who are running the forums the worst. My only concern is that during the time period in which this would happen, the forums could be very inactive. We might need to change or add something to make it better (i.e. updating the techniques, shop, warning system, rules, etc.). That's up to you guys.

For Leadership, I think the idea that Zarbon suggested is pretty unique already. Combining the first and second tasks is a good idea, and which the combinations of the two teams' sagas, it will be a test of leadership, planning, and updating/moderating. However, if there are still 4-6 people in the game, it would be tough to pick a winner from this, unless one person clearly stands out. Either we need to make sure the earlier tasks can eliminate enough people or we need to tweak it a bit to make sure we can see who is the clear winner.

I'm using Zarbon's writing as a base and adding in my changes.

Task One

For your first task in the competition, you will be given control of one of the forums here at Flubbs. Out of Character, In Character, or forums that lay inbetween, you must manage them all for your time in this competition, as the staff are taking a little vacation. And when I say 'vacation' I mean 'watching your every move like a hound.' If you are able to handle the members, are able to update on time and do a good job, you might just pass this task. However, if you are lazy, unable to do your job, or the whole place is chaos, you will, without second chance, be removed from the competition. Good luck.

List of Assignments:

Team 1 Person 1: OOC Forum
Team 1 Person 2: QSU Forum
Team 1 Person 3: Artist's Forum
Team 1 Person 4: All Planets
Team 1 Person 5: Alliance Forums/Joining Forum
Team 2 Person 1: Alliance Forums/Joining Forum
Team 2 Person 2: All Planets
Team 2 Person 3: Artist's Forum
Team 2 Person 4: QSU Forum
Team 2 Person 5: OOC Forum

You will notice some of you have the same forum. This is normal, as you will both be working on it together.

You will do this for two weeks.

Task Two

You will be divided into two teams, in which you will each work together to create a saga. It can be any saga you like, from tournaments to story, as long as you all plan it out to the point where it is hostable. Try to make it rather complex, we aren't looking for 'big fight.' That is why we have decided to throw some twists your way. First of all, the saga must incorporate Machines (Cargo's note: If you think some other word would be better, tell me.) into the saga. This means it must be centered around some sort of robot, machine, or something mechanical. But wait . . . there's more! Each player will be asked to produce a part of the saga storyline. Once one section is completed, the applicant will PM his submission to me and I will PM it to the next member of the team/post it. Then it is up to the next member to continue the story. Each section should be around 300 words. Once this has been completed, as a team, you will decide the rewards for the saga. This is the order:

Team 1

Team 1 #1
Team 1 #2
Team 1 #3

Team 2
Team 2 #3
Team 2 #2
Team 2 #1

While you are doing this, you will resume your moderating and updating duties. Please note that the people who eliminated last round's work will be divided amongst you. If you do a good job at this, you will proceed. If you fail to contribute to this saga design, or are the weakest link, you will be kicked out the of the competition. Good luck.

Updated List of Assignments:

Team 1:

Random Guy 1: OOC Forum, Joining Forum
Random Guy 2: QSU Forum, Generic Planet 1
Random Girl 1: Artist's Forum, Alliance Forum

Team 2:

Random Guy 3: Artist's Forum, Joining Forum
Random Girl 2: Alliance Forums, OOC Forum
Random Guy 4: Generic Planet 1, QSU Forum

You have a week from this post to plan the saga.

Task Three

Alright, possible staff members, it is time for your final tasks. Each of your groups will actually carry your saga out, with little to no delay. Each of your teams now has a leader, chosen by us, to lead you through this task. You have unlimited time to carry this saga out, and we wish you luck. If you fail to do these things, you're out of the competition.

Updated List of Assignments

For this round, all of your positions will be combined. You will have to handle all forums at once, and work together to maintain them.

The following notice will occur about two weeks into the sagas.

Read this:

There has been a change of plans for this round. You will now have to combine both sagas on the fly. Your groups will be fused together to better your chances of doing so. Remember, you cannot just go with a single saga. Both sagas must meet and the story must flow from there together. Unlike the unlimited time of your saga, you have to make this fusion within the week. Leaders of both groups will be co-leaders from now on. Good luck.

I really dislike not giving them the freedom of making their own free saga, not based off of any single word. We should leave them to create whatever they please, is my opinion. It will show how creative they are, as that is near essential to the staffing job, depending on what you're working on. Besides, it adds to the difficulty factor of the fusion. If they are both related by a single word, it would be much easier. For example, if I had a giant robot destroying Tokyo in one saga, in which the purpose is to work with top scientists to find a way to shut it down, with many twists along the way (more robots, sudden problems in the plan, a whole underground factory producing more robots, a mad scientist is behind it all, etc), and in the other, I had an insane computer taking over a huge network of systems, forming major defenses around itself, and twists, of course (computer turns off all capabilites to use machines against himself through a strange virus, etc.). I could easy fit it together by saying then scientist is controlling the computer to get robot designs from the network to help him here.

See what I mean? Too easy. If there is a connection made between the two at the start (they could do the same thing on their own, but will probably stray away from it to make themselves seem more original to the judges.), its way too easy to fit the pieces together and come out with an outcome. That's not 'overheat', that's 'its a sunny day in the Arctic' heat. So, lets just keep it free, to avoid making the final task way too easy for its own good.

However, we can still pump Task 2 up a tad. I like Bardock's idea of including parts for the site as well as planning an OOC game, Cargo's originally. Perhaps we can upgrade task 2 so 3 can make an inferno? Sounds good to me. We could add the condition that the new additions to the site must be added during (at the 'Read this:' part) or before into the saga. Sort of an 'introduction' of the new items. That should add a bit more pressure, so its not just pull a few cords together. In fact, we could have one sole word to base the saga off of if it was like this. Maybe.

EDIT: As a side note, let's keep the wrench. It would be an extremely good addition, for at least the first round.

I see what your saying. The words didn't have to be the same but I see what your saying. You didn't talk about the idea of the each memeber creating a piece of the saga. tho

But you should post what your final tasks would be.

Bingo, my thoughts exactly about the Planning task, Zarbon. We don't want to give them ANYTHING to build off of. I want to see something completely original. Zarbon's idea for an Ant RPG back in the Apprentice is the kind of originality we'd want them to try to pull off.

So, now for my rough sketches of the three tasks:

Task 1 - Moderating/Updating

This is a free for all round. You have no teams. Everyone will be assigned a particular board to moderate and update. There will be many overlaps, and some of you may be responsible for moderating more than one board. During this time, you will be responsible for keeping each board up to date, enforce the rules, and update anything as necessary for those boards. At any time, you may and most likely will be given different boards to moderate, to give you a taste for all the aspects of moderating the RPG.
Here's the assignments:

Contestant 1: The Asylum and The Workshop
Contestant 2: Q/S/U
Contestant 3: All Planet Boards
Contestant 4: Same as #1
Contestant 5: Same as #2
Contestant 6: Same as #3
And so on. The assignments here are just rough examples of how it could be assigned.

Also note, I would recommend utilizing Bardock's "wrench" in this first Task.

Task 2 - Planning

All contestants will still be responsible for their moderating and updating duties. In this phase, the remaining contestants will be broken down into two teams. Each is responsible for coming up with an original and fun OOC Game or a Saga. Whichever they choose. During the middle of this task, a vote will be taken from the members of each team of who is doing the best job, and then the person voted to be doing the best will be swapped to the other team. People will continue to be eliminated if they do not perform their moderating abilites up to snuff, or if they do not perform well in this task.

Task 3 - Leadership

We should have narrowed down the field a great amount by this point. Here, we bring back any eliminated contestants who wish to participate in this final task, to be the remaining contestants' "team" of staff. Here, the remaining contestants will be asked to actually execute the saga or OOC game they planned. Whoever pulls it off the best, wins. Updating/Moderating duties still apply. At the end, regardless of winning or losing team, the actual staff members will nominate 3 people they believe to have performed the best up to this point, and then they vote on who should become staff. And viola, we have our newest staff bit- er... member!

I do like the idea of making each member creating a piece of the saga. Finds a way for it to be individual.

I will post them in due time.

That wasn't my idea. I think it was HF's. However, that doesn't matter. I'll get to work on my final tasks now.

Yes. Only thing is fake PMs aren't really fair.

Restating my previous thought, if you want to do this, then it would have to be stated properly. Like:

The staff has randomly selected you to automatically advance to the next round. However, you will still continue to work with your teammates to complete the task the best you can. If you tell anyone that you have already advanced, you will be eliminated.

However, I still think,

I think the hardest and best workers should actually get passes to the next round, at least in the first team task. Other than that, it's all systems go!!!!

Sorry, been busy the last couple of days. Just checking in.

I third the motion of not using any material for creating sagas. They should be done from scratch.

My ideas will be posted shortly.

Notes: I edited my original post with various additional ideas that I liked. So, you'll be seeing alot of familiar stuff. Also, I had a problem with the Moderation Setup in Task 2. So, I got as close as possible.

Task One

Hello contestants! Welcome! As you are now about to go through a very gruelling trial to become the next staff member on Flubbs! You will do various things to test all the skills we deem necessary for this job. You, the contenders for this role, will have to complete these things to our satisfaction before we can finally choose who is worthy of such a role. Below is your opening assignment. Good luck.

For your first task in the competition, you will be given control of one of the forums here at Flubbs. You will do this job for two weeks, and at the end, eliminations shall occur. Now, hop to it!

The following is a PM to every single competitor.

Congratulations!

You are the lucky competitor who has earned ?The Shield? this round! This means the Shield shall block you from all elimination, no matter what you do. However, there is a catch. You must keep your role as the Shield a secret, or else you will be removed from the contest. Now, you can go relax or keep up with your duties. Either way, you?re good to go for this task.

Task Two

Well done, contestants! Most of you kept on working, even with the Cursed Shield on your backs! Give yourselves a quick pat on the back, and get ready for your second task in the competition! Good luck.

You have a week from this post to plan the saga and create everything else. Once again, at the end, there will be eliminations. Now, hop to it!

Task Three

Good job to those who succeeded during the last task. For those who were eliminated, too bad. However, for the remaining competitors, well done. It is time for your third task. Good luck, because ready or not, here it comes!
