The Atari VCS launched for $250, which is about $800 today. That might be what you were thinking of.

Not only do they not care about the pricing, they also don't care about the number of units they're shipping. For example, the local Toys R Us had 8 PS3 Pre-orders. The actual number of systems delivered to the store: 6. 6 PS3s. That's it.

I've heard it said that the Toys R Us is going to be receiving between 60 and 70 Wiis.

I see the PS3 more as a "pre-order" system, and the Wii as a "Whoa. Look at that. Let's get it." system. The PS3 is obviously looking at the hardcore gamer, while Nintendo's strategy is to make a good, fun first impression on non-gamers, and then entice them with the low price and intuitive gameplay.

it's priced what it is because of the cost to produce the systems. blu-ray drives are expensive and so are the cell processors.

and they're shipping as many as they can make.

There have been multiple reports of people getting killed and stabbed over the PS3s. So for a warning to all, please carry some type of weapon on you when buying the PS3. Also, it helps to be with a few friends, just in case. Lastly, if you live in a bad neighborhood, make sure you are either cool with everyone there, or you have a good form of defense to prevent B&Es. That's all. I don't want to hear about any of you guys on the news. =/

I didn't hear anyone dying, but I did hear about people getting shot, trampled on, and robbed over it. It's pretty sad when people are so desperate for money/or a gaming console that they feel they have to do things like that.

Anyways - to the point - I'm pretty poor these days(as if I ever wasn't) so PS3 is out of my price range. I'll stick with my PS2.

I have the money for a PS3 and I live in the West Baltimore; one of the worst places to reside in the country. I'm not buying a PS3, lol, but if I was going to I'd try to keep it under wraps until I got to my neighborhood.

Krillin, I live in the ghetto, yet I have many items of value, its moreso accumulated overtime, and usually involves saving for quite awhile, unless you're a drug dealer or something. But not all people that live in the ghetto are poor. When Im older and move out Ill probably still stay around this neiborhood.

Why? Cause I know a lot of people here, and being in a suburban area just doesnt suit me all that well. I've rather become accusomed to the "never a dull moment" lifestyle, and I like it that way.
