It's also very bad to use a figure of roughly 60% for to justify fucking over the remaining 40%. You're looking purely at the numbers, and not the context. It's not like those people who want the timeskip so that they can roleplay having lived on KR for the past 5-10 years are actually going to lose much if they can't have that - their storylines haven't even started yet, so they have complete room to mould it.

I very much am keeping things in context. By your same logic, the people who voted no aren't necessarily people who would advocate against a time-skip. Moreover, you're generalizing everyone who wants a time-skip as people who want to live on KR. Fact of the matter is that no one other than the people who voted know why they want some time to lapse.

You're very much correct in saying that many people plan on using characters with storylines that haven't started yet, but you don't seem to care about removing the possibility of them ever starting.

You're also correct in saying that I'm putting a lot of stock in the numbers. If we do the timeskip, we penalize those few who are keeping their canons. If we don't do the time skip we either ruin plans already made or limit what plans can be made. To create something that's integrated into the Chubbs history means you need a place from which to springboard your story. For a lot of people that place only presents itself in the form of the timeskip. People are going to be pissed off no matter what, so it only makes sense to piss off as few people as possible.

I stated earlier in this thread that the staff was working on a saga that would transition into the new system, incorporate a timeskip, and let people effectively ignore it IC. Its a perfectly reasonable solution to those who don't want the timeskip, but it was mostly ignored or brushed aside.

And just so you know, this isn't me accusing you of deliberately misinterpreting things for your own benefit, or 'an attack on Chubbs' in any way. This is just me pointing out a lapse in logic.

Yeah, I know.

EDIT:

There's nothing to suggest that we're fucking over any more than the two or three people who have replied saying "I'm going to be fucked over." If people don't come out and say "this will ruin my plans" then we have absolutely no way of knowing what effect it will have on them. "We" being both members and staff alike.

There's little doubt in my mind that several votes (both for and against the time skip) were made by people who don't really care.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. I don't know how it would be possible to be able to ignore it IC.

The closest thing I can think of is something along the lines of a time warp that happens in a saga that lets people skip ahead into the future, or they get frozen for five years. Though that wouldn't really mean people could effectively ignore it IC - the world would still have changed. From a character perspective it would help, though.

I don't know if that was your idea or if you had something else in mind.

I think what he means is some event or something, and you can either choose to be a part of it or not.

I know that, Coola. I edited above to clarify what I meant. =P

Well, I'd like to take the time to throw my opinion as a member out here:

Not having the time skip will fuck me over.

Just saying to make that known. That's just my opinion as a member.

Purely out of curiosity, how? I can see people being fucked over by having it, because they already will have had plans in place, but I don't know how you could have banked on there being a timeskip, unless you've made plans since this topic.

I don't see the problem. Canons going through an era/story-line with their characters can just fluid time the rest. Or, like me, if you plan on doing a personal saga that was a prelude even to our current time-line, it doesn't really matter at all.

Then again, if someone doesn't know where their character will end up at the end of an ongoing storyline, or what kind of character they will be on the other end of it, they will get royaly screwed. Suddenly something thats current becomes fluid-timed, and any character interaction becomes a lot of guesswork. It's like having to join an RPG with half of a bio done. You're going along great, your character is almost solidified into what you want it to be, and then all of a sudden you're summoned to be a part of the online community. I can surmise that would pretty frustrating.

I dont wan't to argue anything staff is going to decide, but I do have to support Greg in what he's saying. After all, isn't the whole idea of having a custom character going far enough into paradise-land for some of our members? On top of that, I don't really see the need to mess up stuff for characters that aren't fully built yet. New characters can make up any history they want can't they? Other than for people who want to be citizens of KR, this time-shift doesn't serve that much of a purpose.

Lastly, wouldn't it be enough for any customs that plan to live on KR to just be able to have histories on that planet already? I mean, the planet itself did come out of nowhere, we will have characters that will (seemingly) come out of nowhere, why not just integrate the two? It would be like the planet was wished into existence, and along with it came a history and a society and new beings. Idk, I think that would be better than shifting things on such a grand scale.

PS: I dont fully understand this whole switch thing, so If I come off as n00b I apologize. I'm really out of the loop. =(

EDIT: lol@'banked on there being a timeskip'

Started planning the moment this topic came out, and I started to see that there was a rather strong possibility of the skip.

To be completely honest, I've completely finished my character, his personality, background, and the storyline he's going to get caught up in that revolves heavily around events that occurred in the past. But if the time period stays the same, well, then to completely honest here, my character shouldn't even be alive yet, let alone be remotely near creation. Events that occur during that time jump (for my canon character) directly impact my upcoming character.

I could of course, try to bullshit it, but I'm not quite sure I like the idea of my character miraculously being born, and then instantly OMFG!!! he's in the past!!!11! I might as well scrap everything. =/

By being fucked over, I meant that you might have to retcon existing details (like Burter is doing by starting his character from scratch). The beauty of being a custom is that, though you might have plans, nothing is set in stone until you actually start posting roleplays as that character. Whereas if you're a canon, you're stuck with what you've made up for your character so far and have to continue off of it in whichever direction the RPG goes.

Not to diminish your possible plight, but it's not quite the same going to your word file and changing the details. =P

I mean no offense by this, but it sounds as if you are implying that the canons are more important and deserve to have special treatment, but the customs are free to be messed with.

IN RESPONSE TO 20: Who told you to do that? O_o You can't hop on something as soon as it comes up and expect everything to fall into place. You have to understand, there are people that have plans for their characters that have had them for a while. For example, I've been outlining a quest for over a year now. Its a history, but if it wasn't, and suddenly something arose to disrupt that, I would be pretty upset.

I'm just not understanding how going from all canons to a mixture of customs too isn't a big enough change to this site. Plus everything is being reset to 0? Thats unheard of... I remember how bad people would get beat into the ground for suggesting customs on here, and now they finally get their wish. That, to me, is big enough. No real reason to skip the timeline ahead too.

At least can people have time to plan for this time shift? Maybe set a date or something? That way people get a timeshift that want it, customs can actually RP a bit of the histories they are trying to establish, and people have enough time to plan ahead with anything they've set out to do with their characters. I'm kind of disgruntled there's no compromise here. We can't just start over, invite customs, AND screw up plans of our devoted members. That's mean.

It's not just that, but the fact that I more or less HAVE to switch to custom. It's the storyline my current character is in. What's going to happen will make it so that I more or less, can't go back until a great passage of time has elapsed.

It's very difficult to explain all this without explaining my whole storyline and future character and whatnot. =/

If you'd prefer, I can explain EVERYTHING I've planned, as that would make a lot more sense, albeit ruining the storyline for anyone who might have so happened to read my work.

But yeah, existing details are a bit more difficult to work around. But being fucked over is still being fucked over. =P

I'm not implying that they're special or that they deserve better treatment. For the most part it's canons that are having to adapt to the shift, as this thread shows.

What I'm saying is that if your character isn't out yet, there's no downside to changing details. On the other hand, I can't say "Buu never went to planet Vegeta" unless I retcon and take out a big chunk of his established history. Customs aren't yet established yet, so they have complete freedom as to how they mould they history, until the point at which they come into existence. At that point, customs have exactly the same ramifications as canons. Do you understand what I mean?

I do understand. But since Waff said there was going to be a new forum with the reset and everything, couldn't you just not post on the new board until you've finished on the old board? I'm sure they'd allow that.

I can understand what you mean - there are still downsides. But as you said, they're not as big. Which is, as I said, my main problem with the poll. Unfortunately you can't have these things scale, and as Rad said, not that many people have really stepped forward to explain their voting reasons. XD

Then maybe the staff should ask for them to send their vote via PM and explain their voting reasons. If they don't explain, it doesn't count. That way staff can decide based upon the arguments they get, and if they can't decide, then they can rely on the numbers.

Mmmhmm...so why are we arguing? You can just make up a history.

If your plans are so set in stone unmovable to the point that the staff is no longer allowed to run a saga for fear that it interfere with your personal plans with your character (Frost has frozen Earth? THAT'S TOTAL BULLSHIT! MY CHARACTER HAS TO HAVE A SUNNY SUMMER THERE OR I AM RUINED!) then why not after the timeskip, involve it? You should already know where you are headed since your plans are so set in stone, so if you know your character is going to have gone through certain trials, then after the time skip be like "Years had passed since he'd infiltrated the refuge movement on Vejita-sei, learning as many of their secrets and rising in their ranks as possible... Now..." I'm just not seeing the difficulty in that.

There's more to the reason for the timeskip then has been listed. No, we are not going to be able to just immediately spill out every single thing either. That's the same thing in demanding you to name out every single food you plan to eat for the next three months and which days, when all you know is that there is a strong possibility that you might want certain things.

Burter is not "scratching his character from being fucked over and starting again" to paraphrase.

I honestly do not know why canons feel abused by this. As I understand it you'll be able to continue your storylines after Takeover right where you left off.

The reason I have a problem is that I'm seeking to conquer a planet and if the boards get wiped then my twenty posts and growing to attain gola are all for nothing and I go back to zero. The Story is the same but the Game, where I'm trying to takeover a planet, is decimated.
