Into the Future
Quote:Originally posted by Super Buu
The closest thing I can think of is something along the lines of a time warp that happens in a saga that lets people skip ahead into the future, or they get frozen for five years. Though that wouldn't really mean people could effectively ignore it IC - the world would still have changed. From a character perspective it would help, though.

That's the gist of it.

The world IS going to be changing. I don't really know what to tell you guys. We cannot evolve the RPG by asking two or three people each time we plan to make a change.

The. world. is. going. to. change.

You. will. be. affected. by. it.

I honestly do not know why canons feel abused by this. As I understand it you'll be able to continue your storylines after Takeover right where you left off.

The reason I have a problem is that I'm seeking to conquer a planet and if the boards get wiped then my twenty posts and growing to attain gola are all for nothing and I go back to zero. The Story is the same but the Game, where I'm trying to takeover a planet, is decimated.

Noone ever said the board was getting wiped. That's been an assumption that has been made, and we've stated repeatedly that we are not wiping it. We are simply going to prevent NEW things from being added here, and then continue on the new boards.

Im confused. @_@

Will we be able to choose when we enter this timeskip IC wise (like, two different timelines running simultaneously), or will it just be 'we skipped, now RP in the new when'?

Closer to the second one.

I knew that. But when I start writing on the post-Turnover Arlia board my thread is back to zero. I'm not fighting the time skip anymore, I was just calrifying why I did have a problem to begin with, but people made it seem that the past effort would be accounted for in my case. Or I might be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Now I have a feeling this is affecting me. D=

Can I still do my quest after the switch? Im assuming everyone will start over as if they just joined, so I can do a history for my character and it will be alright?

The saga is going to affect people. You can pretty much avoid it, but that's on you if you decide to go sunbathing in a frozen world, just to throw that out there. The worlds are going to be affected, but not in a "OMG CHUBBS IS DYING RUN ABANDON MY WORK IS DESTROYED" sort of way. As far as the Time Skip goes, people that involve themselves in the saga will pretty much be "eliminated" as they normally would, possibly with some say in the exact manner of their elimination, although nothing is official there. If you aren't involved, then we'll have a precreated excuse for how you can have your character transition how you wish, whether it be to be stasis locked into the same exact state and age you are currently in (although the world will change around you and without you), be thrown into the future through some time portal, or manage to just stick it out and build a story of what happened and where you are now in the rebuilding world.

Saga?

Can someone please fill me in. Point me to some threads or something, I am COMPLETELY lost.

If your plans are so set in stone unmovable to the point that the staff is no longer allowed to run a saga for fear that it interfere with your personal plans with your character (Frost has frozen Earth? THAT'S TOTAL BULLSHIT! MY CHARACTER HAS TO HAVE A SUNNY SUMMER THERE OR I AM RUINED!) then why not after the timeskip, involve it? You should already know where you are headed since your plans are so set in stone, so if you know your character is going to have gone through certain trials, then after the time skip be like "Years had passed since he'd infiltrated the refuge movement on Vejita-sei, learning as many of their secrets and rising in their ranks as possible... Now..." I'm just not seeing the difficulty in that.

There's more to the reason for the timeskip then has been listed. No, we are not going to be able to just immediately spill out every single thing either. That's the same thing in demanding you to name out every single food you plan to eat for the next three months and which days, when all you know is that there is a strong possibility that you might want certain things.

Burter is not "scratching his character from being fucked over and starting again" to paraphrase.
Why is it that every time people are arguing something - albeit civilly - you have to turn it into just mocking people you're arguing against? =/ It's annoying.

You are exaggerating things and understating a few key facts. Yes - canons can adapt so that things make sense with the changes. But characters change in 5-10 years. You cannot deny that it is going to affect people's storylines. Customs will not be affected in the same way, because their storylines are still completely up in the air. Yes, you might have plans, but nothing is set in stone yet. That is a fact.

As for your second post, I don't know who you mean by two or three people. Spell things out - it's a lot easier when you're not ambiguous.

And as I said before, it's not a personal problem of mine. I used Supes in an example back there, but I don't mind skipping ahead a few years mainly because I don't have the future of my character set in stone, and the timeskip coincides with a few ideas I have. So targeting me on a personal level is somewhat redundant.

Rad - that sounds pretty cool. I might get involved with if it goes ahead that purely so that I can have some of my plans happen, but keep SB himself unchanged. I'll remain ambiguous until I've planned it out more. >_>

Nowhere near ready yet. You guys were given warnings, and as much as people are complaining about being blindsided by this, we are giving every advance notice we are able and plan to continue doing so. We still have a lot of work to do, and you guys are free to do whatever until then. We are trying to make this smooth.

Rad brought up the idea in this thread. Basically there might be a saga which entails the current characters effectively travelling forward in time (or frozen or whatever - 'tis but a means to an end) to after the timeskip. That way they haven't really changed, but the world outside has had a chance to change.

I heard stuff about this happening in a couple of months or so. Or is the time shift and the reset two different things?

That's exactly why we're doing it.

Bido: the only place any has been discussed is here. There's not too much to be lost about. We're thinking up a saga that will be a nice "ending" to the current system of Chubbs as well as give people an excuse for preserving their characters as they are.

Am I correct in saying that Reijin's allusion to Earth being frozen over was a hint?

So the reset isn't imminent? I thought this was very soon. I've been listening to the wrong people. =/

Sorry, I had to leave for work, so I didn't get to properly respond.

Super Buu: Stop playing the victim. I never said your name in there, b/c I wasn't talking about you. I was being general as to the basic feeling I'm getting from some responses, and stating how we can't play favorites when we feel the need to do a saga or something. We have to continue on, and can't make our decisions due to "This is going to mess up someone's plans". We can try to take them into account, but lately I've felt there is no point in ever running a saga since it always interferes with a few people's plans, and feel a bit insulted that the general opinion sometimes seems to point at "You have to revolve your plans around me".

When I said "2-3 people" I meant exactly that. Against, stop trying to point it at you. I was being ambiguous for a reason. If I had an exact person or group of people in mind while typing that, I would have said those exact people.

Whereas you view it as "exaggeration", I'm seeing it as fairly accurate.

About the frozen Earth, I was using an example as from the Cold Industries saga where Earth was frozen. By the responses I've received from some people, I have begun to feel that if we did it now, we'd have to either get their permission to keep from interfering with their set plans, or we'd have to make a statement that somehow they are able to completely be unaffected by the world being frozen over.

I believe it was stated in the past as well. I don't really know how else to word it for you, since I apparently am so strongly claiming that it won't affect you.

TIMELINE: There is absolutely no date as of yet. Not even a rough one. You have breathing time. Use it.

Also... To everyone, and just to make sure it is known. Not to be rude, but I'm saying it for clarification. YOU WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE TIMESKIP OR SAGA IN SOME WAY. THERE IS SIMPLY NO WAY TO HAVE SUCH A CATACLYSMIC EVENT OTHERWISE. I'M SORRY IF THAT DOESN'T LINE UP WITH YOUR PLANS. MODIFY THEM SOMEHOW. YOU CAN DO IT ALL BEFORE THE EVENT HAPPENS, TO WHICH YOU'VE RECIEVED NO DATE YET AT ALL, OR YOU CAN WAIT TILL AFTER AND ALTER IT. THE WORLD IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT AFTER.

Once again, you're using mockery as a form of debating. I don't want to be contradictory here, but if you want to be taken seriously then please stop taking the piss out of the people you're trying to persuade. Saying "I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular this is just the feeling that I'm getting" doesn't really help.

This is not a 'yes or no' answer. Yes, of course everything you do affects us in some way. Nobody is arguing that. What we're arguing is that certain people are affected more. Would you agree with this, or do I need to reiterate the past couple of pages? I don't want to be blunt, but it seems you're not sure exactly why people are complaining, and someone has to spell it out.
