I Am Legend

No, I only watched the original ending. What happens in the alternative ending, just out of curiousity?

This movie was ironic in many ways

When you're dancing her dance, you don't stand a chance
Her grip of romance makes you fall!
So you think, might as well dance a tango to Hell
At least I'll have tango'd at all!

I dunno about that ending. I like it cuz he lives...

I found the movie disturbing and it really stirred my emotions, so much so that I can't find myself watching it again.

That was a pretty powerful scene.

Huh. I'm kind of glad they went with the original ending.

And I too got pretty choked up when he had to kill his dog. Why is it that people feel more emotional about animals dying than humans?

Also, is anyone else a bit confused as to why they didn't delve deeper into the intelligence levels of the infected? You know, like how they set the trap. It didn't really explain it well, I was under the impression they were mindless zombies, then suddenly they set a trap.

You fail. The point was that they had depth and emotions, and their thought process was evolving. If you remember, when Will stole that big guys woman (in the black bag), the big zombie made an expression that was just SO palpable. It was frustrated and just wanted to be left alone (they were in a dark building, not bothering anybody, and here some guy comes and takes one of them to experiment on).

That's why I liked the alternate ending a lot better. It was a lot more touching, and it made Will Smith not look like fucking Hitler.

Yeah but Will Smiths character said they'd eaten the few humans who were non-infected. So it's not like they were these peaceful beings who didn't want to hurt anybody.

They were trying to survive. And their instinct was to consume human blood, just our first humans' instincts were to consume the flesh of "lesser forms of life". They are a species in their earliest form... crude, primitive, instinctual. Weren't we the same?

Those are things I would never have picked up on having just watched the film. It feels almost like the producers expected you to have read the book before watching it.

I didn't read the book. O_OOOOOOO

For a deeper understanding, maybe. You can watch the movie and find it kickass without thinking beneath the surface.

We are those 'mutants.' We destroy the world that other species know and love.

I think the movie got that point across pretty well. People just saw Will Smith and went "zOMG, A BLOCKBUSTEEEER".
