Well, even so, if they do manage to post once or twice an MIA term with a post larger then 300 words, I don't see the problem of Rei and VJ instilling this system. It might give them a bit more insentive, but honestly...since when as 300 words ever been alot of work?
I can whip out three hundred words in two paragraphs.
I agree. Always have. But some people have so much pride that they won't post a simple 300 worder to save themselves. I don't mind if they go ahead and post a long rp later before they're de-activated, but I know people like Reijin refuse to just post 300 words so we can take them off the list

Because we're actually doing work for the site. We don't get any payment for this, so our "non MIA-ness" could be considered something along those lines.
Again, like I said, I almost always crank out at least one post every two weeks, usually two.

..so..you're basicly saying that because you're staff, you should be absolved of the rules that the rest of us need to abide by in order to be considered active and take part in this forum in an IC state?
No, I'm saying that, since we are doing a great deal of work for the benefit of the IC forums, it is not too unreasonable to think that we can have a little leeway with IC activity restrictions, as long as we are actively performing our Staff duties.
Quote:And you just said you get one or two posts up in a week, so what's the problem with instilling this small post checking..script..thing? Are your posts 299 words or less? If not...again...what's the problem?
There really isn't one. You raised an issue with the current system regarding Staff MIA, and I'm arguing against you. I would be fine within the new system, but I still wish to keep the system regarding Staffy-ness as it is now.

Well, I kind of think that if someone wants to be staff and a character at the same time, and can't fufill both roles to at least something leaning towards the better half of their abilities, then they really shouldn't put both on their plate. It's like getting credit for not being able to do both things well, and instead getting let off with doing both things 'passebly' if that's even a word.
The Staff we have now is there because we feel they can perform spectacularly given their time and such. Whether or not they can remain active IC (which, for the most part, they can) is on the side. It should be noted that, originally, Staff was practically allowed to keep their characters forever, no matter how long they were inactive. This is obviously still an improvement.
Quote:I <3 you Krillin, even if some think otherwise, and you do feel like a kick to the head every now and again. I just think that if you're going to have such a limited amount of time to be on Chubbs, staff or IC should be done well, even if it just means one of the two, instead of half-waying both.
So basically, you want whoever is on Staff and can't roleplay every single day to give up their characters, eh?
Quote:I, for one, would have no problem just being staff and enjoying the OOC ness if I couldn't fullfill what was expected of an active roleplayer. I still think everything might be a bit easier if there was more staff, or at the very least, there would be less reasons for people not to post IC if they were staff.
Nah. We have as many Staff members as we need. If we needed more, we'd be looking to add more.
Quote:All I guess can be realisticaly asked for is maybe that there was a bit more of a crackdown on MIA dodgers (People that do the bare minimum and are basicly place holders for characters, not really doing anything with them.) and the program Rei and VJ are discussing.
I agree with the MIA dodger problem. There's a few that I notice do this consistently, that aren't on Staff, and it's a little annoying. But, they are still within the rules, so I don't think we should "crack down" on them per se.

Burter is right about me there. I don't like to just halfass something like that. Additionally, I DID give away my character for it. In a staff case, I wouldn't mind if all staff moved to customs just for the sake of relieving guys for members.
The thing you aren't grasping is this: We enjoy the site as well. We enjoy every aspect of it. We enjoy creating the world, we enjoy being dedicated to helping others enjoy the world, but we also enjoy interacting with that world ourselves. We get excited when we create a new area, b/c we can't wait to interact with it.
Otherwise, if we pushed it out the door and that was it, where is our fun? Should Square employees shove Final Fantasy games out but never experience the actual game themselves, just the programming? Should they not be allowed to pick it up once a week or so and enjoy it since they focus on their job?
I tend to write a lot more for site stuff, like the IV or CNN stuff. I tend to do a lot of writing for the site world itself, but I don't have time to do both. However, I still enjoy my character as well and when time allows, I like to take a break from that stuff to enjoy what another staff member brings to the table. I'm not shoveling turkey in my mouth alone if someone has green bean casserole sitting nearby.
Finally... what would I be without a long post and random comparisons? I don't halfass with making a small quick post just to avoid MIA, and I don't even halfass OOC responses. I feel if I'm going to say it, work it. Even if I'm about four paragraphs overboard.
Joking aside: I also make a point of avoiding just "go grade a random spar and poof you are ok" for exactly that reason. A member can't go grade something and be safe. However, if I post a CNN post and all... Why should that not help me? I just roleplayed for the site itself. If I create some new creative work for the site, why shouldn't that count as a "roleplay"? Its not like I'm just sitting here watching.
(not saying anyone is angry, just responding)

Here's a point no one brought up, and its a valid one.
I sit down and go to Chubbs, open up AIM, and start poking around.
If I don't have 30 PMs about a bunch of bullshit that didn't have to involve me or even be addressed to me an any way shape or form, I'm greeted with a deluge of IMs about someone wanting to switch characters, or about a spar grading being unfair or about the latest join-forum spam.
You know what I do after that?
I sign off of AIM, close Firefox and leave my computer.
I don't want to RP after that nonsense. I don't even want to look at Chubbs.
You members have the luxury of being able to say/do something and then forget about it while us staff members have to deal with all of it. Sure, you're whining about what you don't like about MIA now, and then we'll say "shut up, if we change it you'll know" and that'll be the end of it for you. For us we get to argue over it in the staff forums, have AIM chats about, swap PMs, and then get flooded with "honest opinions" from the various members who didn't actually want to post anything in these forums.
Staff do their work and maintain their character's activity (for the most part). According to the admins, they've earned the incredibly minor amount of leeway they get on the issue of MIA. If you don't like it, or don't think its fair, that's really too bad.
EDIT: Seven (maybe six) of you deserve warnings right now. This very second. I have half a mind to do it.
EDIT2: I'm not MIA anymore. =D

Rad got to it first, but yeah, you all seem to be forgetting this is a Staff Only tag, and it's gone beyond the original inquiry. Locked.

I've mentioned Rad's point before on other issues. I didn't think to reiterate it. Thank you for having done so

*Pulls out his pipe and rocking chair.*
Back in my day, we didn't put up with shit like this. Back then members realized what they were- scum! Cockroaches to be stomped upon and then scrapped off into the trash. But that was then, and this is now where you got Raditsu and Reijin with their fancy "Lets treat them nicely!"- BAH I SAY!
But instead of appreciatin' it, you're all like [whine]It has to be equal~[/whine]. If you want it to be equal, than you best pull out your check book and start handin't out the cash- cuz as a member all you have ter do is roleplay and talk shit. Staff members have many other duties beyond that, even I do things behind the scene with staff that you bastards don't see and obviously don't appreciate if you think it's not equal unless all things apply to the Staff.
Bah! In my day... oooh...

Kakarot speaks the truth. Even two years ago was different than it is now. And he does actually continue to contribute to the site, so anyone attacking him about that has no justification.

See, we aren't too big of assholes. This thread deviated into normal chat and we didn't go warning. A good person knows when to be strict, and when not to be
