Doomsday patch today
#21
I've already said this, but what really fried me was that they said that Spectral Transformation was too close to Druid iconic abilities while they were at the same time giving Windfury Totem, SoE totem, Unleashed Rage and Mental quickness to other classes.

That just made me want to throw my computer out the window.

Yeah, you still get to use Poisons though, you just have to buy them from the vendor instead of the mats. Its just eliminates the line between A and B for you.

I've spent the past ... month? ... getting gold up to buy some purple resto gear so I can switch from balance to resto. Got my last bit of gear yesterday.

... then plus healing and plus spell damage become one stat.

....

....

....

My PVP boomkin gear does better healing than the gear I spent thousands of gold on. Words cannot describe how angry I am.

EDIT: and now the server's crashing every five minutes. Bravo, Blizzard. You bastards.

I guess it isn't TOO bad, minus losing my poison skill and must now go hunt down the fucks that sell it now. However, watching my energy meter shoot up really, really quick is nice.

What's ZA?

And I'm assuming you're a Shaman? Those are supposed to do sub-par damage, right?

Yeah, Enhance is doing fine right now, as is all melee. I'm not worried in the sense that "this is teh end of the world", my original post was mostly a joke. This is the same as pre-bc on scale of changes.

I'm just worried with their direction the last few months of really pushing melee, which is why melee has been dominating pvp and NOW melee (all melee) is beasting everyone else on damage. My friend texted me earlier to inform me that a badly geared retadin in his group last night in Heroic MagTer was doing 2300 avg dps. Your avg lock holds a min of 1000 to 1200 dps right now, and that's called "overpowered" by many. You can do the math there. Secondly, tanks in prot spec are in the top 10 of the dps. So in a 25 man raid with around 7/8 healers, and a main tank, maybe two or so for other purposes, that means there are 15 pure dps classes minimum BELOW THE TANK.

Just too much hybrid push, but they said they are watching it and plan to get the pure dps above them again because there is no reason for it. They also said recently that they are seriously reevaluating their thoughts on dots critting and on the shadow priest forums mentioned something about making it just baseline for all dot classes to scale dots with crit (hopefully hots too).

Oh, Orion... That's kinda your fault dude. That info about unified Spell Power has been out for months and all over the place, including talked about on the live servers in trade and general. I mean, I just went through getting my resto gear for my shaman, but I can use that equally for either purpose now (glyphs permitting). Always read the beta forums before an expansion, they put the info there to help you prepare for the massive changes that will always have to happen. Or http://www.mmo-champion.com or http://www.wowinsider.com

I'm not really that worried about Shaman, pve-wise. PVP is a different situation, but that's for non-resto. Shaman will be fine, honestly. I think Locks are in bad shape, but hopefully that'll work itself out. Shaman aren't in horrid shape though, not like when BC launched.

It's my fault I expect to play a game without having the mechanics suddenly change? I don't spend a lot of time, nor desire to, looking through WoW forums. It's enough of a time sink as it is. I also didn't expect all of these changes to happen until WotLK was released. But I guess that's my fault too, huh?

I actually agree with Orion.

If the developers are making changes that effect players regardless of how "hardcore" or casually they play, then the information should be made equally available. How hard is it to throw in a pop-up that says "These changes are coming soon!!" when someone logs in?

Not very.

They HAVE put the info out though. Its been on the beta forums that people are asked to look at, and all across the net. They didn't hide this stuff. Just some people stuck their heads in the sand saying "Meh, I don't care till the expansion comes out, otherwise it doesn't matter to me." (My friend said this).

Large mechanics changes should not be any surprise. It happened pre-BC also. Its just like political information about Presidential candidates being all over the tv. You can't KNOW that the election is coming, and then go up to the voting booth, vote, and then get mad later when you find out he was on tv for three months preaching about something you disagreed with simply because you didn't want to keep up with a foundation changing event.

That's not their fault. Some people are going to be inconvenienced, but you no longer have to go collecting all sorts of gear, not as much since you can transition a lot easier as far as hybrids are concerned. I'd consider that a good thing. Expansion packs are not just "add a new zone, huzzah, done". They've always involved large scale class balance changes and overall mechanics work.

As it IS we have 400 idiots running around right now screaming "HOW DOES I GET TO DALARAN" and "WTB PORT TO NORTHREND" when that isn't released till Wrath is shipped. Just like the pre-bc content patch where everyone was "HOW DOES I MAKE A BLOODELF AND GET TO SHAT?"

EDIT: It wasn't sudden either. This information has been all over the net for months. In no way sudden. Things fluctuate, so they can't just send an email four months ahead saying "These are definitely happening" because if they know what's happening, chances are they can go ahead and get it out there, which has even MORE people know about it. If someone is playing an MMORPG and expecting everything to stay the exact same with no real changes, then they are in the wrong genre. MMOs are about as solid as water and things get buffed, nerfed, redone, all the time.

That's not the point, though. We're saying it's unreasonable to expect people to find the information about the game outside of the game itself. They're very capable of displaying text in the WoW interface. They just don't.

Even in your voting example, they send voter's pamphlets to people's houses. They don't say "your info is at City Hall, go get it."

Yeah, the information has been available, but not available enough. That is absolutely Blizzard's fault.

EDIT: If you know that all of your players have to start WoW in order to play, and only some of your players read the forums, why not put the info where everyone sees it. That should just be common sense.

Because as I said, the plans for these things are not "set in stone" until they actually launch it. If we know that they post these updates on the forums to reach their customers, and we know that we are in a change process due to the expansion coming out, it is our responsibility to look at the information that they provide. It is a lot of information, and they are usually many builds ahead of what they have on beta and are able to talk about, in order to test even larger ideas that may become commonplace but get removed and we never know about it.

An example: Up until a week ago, Blizz said that to use Flying Mounts in Northrend that you would have to do a quest at 77. It was a quest, at 77, and you'd earn money from it. They had this "set in stone" for a while now. The quest has been done, applauded, etc. A week ago they decided to make it a purchase at 77 for 1000g, to help money sink all the extra money out there. No explaination as to why, and I'm kinda pissed, but that's how it goes. The quest is still there, but it just won't give that reward.

Well, I disagree. This isn't just some service they're providing because they're nice. They're being paid. Keeping all of their customers informed should be a priority, in my opinion.
