Dragon Age!

You get more as you level but I agree, it's an interesting concept but to waste points on it. Ironically I find the only ones I can sacrifice points is usually with my main character's points, which bugs me to infinity.

Oh I know. They're blatantly situational. It would just be awesome to toggle everything on and turn into a living bulwark, watching as waves of evil crashed against my rocky shores of justice.

Well you could specc Morrigan Spellbloom, it increases stamina regeneration by an ocean for your shores and maybe stack your shit in stamina.

The +stamina/mana regen song of Leliana's is pretty handy, too. I almost always have it running to support my depraved spell binging.

I know what you mean Kaden since on my warrior I'll probably be getting Berserk, Blood Frenzy, Indomitable and Powerful Swings. NEEDS MORE DAMAAAGE

So, I got back into it and...mages>all and then some. The way I went with mine, sort of naturally aka without much preplanning was that I have Mind Blast(Aoe stun seemed like a no-brainer), all the way down to Inferno, Chain Lightning(honestly, I use the storm part and barely ever CL, so if I do it again I prob won't take CL)

Sleep and Horror for more CC and the fact that Horror can affect almost anything but the big bosses that I've seen so far, the first two heal spells(heal and the regen thing) all of the Spirit Healer skills(Spirit healer, for the record, beats the living shit out of the other three specs imo) and the very first skill that has arcane bolt and ends in a normal attack and spellpower boost.

For almost any circumstance I've been in this all works extremely well, being able to CC pretty much any number of ranged groups with Sleep, Fireball, and Nightmare if I need to, and inferno/lightning storming most things to hell. Use those, Crushing prison on the biggest baddie and pewpew away with the regulars(Arcane bolt, the lightning version as well when it's up, and life drain if you like) and you're Jesus, and if you somehow get aggro from Shale(Alistair is nowhere near as good in my experience), you have Force Field.

Add that to being able to heal like a champ and Dark Sustenence+Life Drain or w/e and you have a formidable mana pool on top of any pots you feel like downing. All in all, very badass and I don't see how either of the other two classes can hope to compete when I come back through.

My preferred party is Shale, Myself, Wynne for backup heals and revive, and either Sten or Lilliana if I don't feel like coming back for the chests later, but generally Sten with Starfang

Yeah, they definitely don't overlap at all. Very sad for me.

My current character is a Human Rogue with dual-wielding. I plan on using strength primarily and use two normal weapons rather than daggers.

My next character will likely be a two-handed dwarf warrior. After that, I will try a mage.

So... I don't really mind the one-toggle-at-a-time thing. I just don't like the missile deflection toggle. Maybe it will be worth it later in the game, but right now I just run up to archers, force them into melee, and not burn the cooldown on my defenses.

I ended up taking the missile-deflect toggle and then loading and grabbing the +armor one instead (as opposed to the +defense toggle). I figure it will be nice to have against the big nasty guys.

Arcane Warrior is all you need, with that you can just ignore the rest of your party.

Which, as detailed above, is fucking stupid.

You guys ruined Mage for me. I don't think there's any way I could play one now and enjoy it.

Are you kidding?

It's tons of fun being an unstoppable juggernaut. I'm not taking Arcane Warrior, fyi. I think it's too op, since I'm already retarded powerful already.

What's the point of just taking the "I win" class? Just to watch pretty colors flash around the screen? Pfft.

I don't get any sense of satisfaction from playing a game that way. If other people do, that's awesome.

SAYS THE MAN WITH LIKE 4300 CA

lol

No but really you can play arcane warrior and not be uber, just don't spec that way most of the op classes are op because people spec them to the hilt.

After Warrior I'm planning on playing a Rogue of some kind. I might even try bows just because I hate myself.

EDIT: To anyone who's played/playing a Rogue, do they get more skill points than other classes? You just don't get enough skill points as a Warrior (might be that way with all classes, though) because you have to take the... Combat Mastery, I think it's called, in order to keep getting your class skills. Which is fucking stupid and basically guarantees that I'll never get extra combat tactic slots (though people already talked about that).

Having not played anything but rogue, I cannot determine whether or not I get more skill points. However, Rogues do start out with create poison.

I'm not sure what spec I should take for being a DPS rogue. Bard, Assassin, Duelist, and Ranger. I'm thinking duelist, although I think ranger might get a pet. The only one I have access to being trained in right now is bard, though. I don't think the bard class will have enough spoony-ness for me.

How far did you go with that plan? Cunning is always the way to go for a dual wielding rogue because there's a talent you can pick that takes all strength's damaging amplifiers and stuffs it onto Cunning so you basically get both Strength and Cunning in the Cunning stat. However if you've just put a little into strength it doesn't matter, you still need it for weapons/armour.

... unlike on arcane warrior.

I'm level 9. I'm basically just doing 2 dex 1 str every level til I hit enough dex to get the highest dual-wield ability. Going Strength instead of cunning means that I don't have to take that entire talent tree, which frees up my character. I also could decide to take a rogue with me in my party, and it will be HER job to open the chests.

Well it's a NICE talent tree. :'<

If it helps, as a ranged rogue you just need to stack Dex and you'll be the best archer around.

Not true. Bows or XBows, can't remember which, get dmg bonus from strength.

I suppose it has to be crossbows, because at one time I stacked the wrong stat (dex) with my rogue (despite that I always hit I hit for shit due to lack of cunning/strength) I at one time just picked up a bow to kite some mobs and I hit them like a truck. I never actually tried a crossbow.
