Dragon Age!

Yeah Sophia that thing was a spoiler for me anyway, what the heck videos are you watching?

NOW THE ENTIRE GAME IS RUINED!

No, really, was a spoiler though.

Yeah, I didn't know that was going to happen.

I don't know why everyone's having sex with the mages. I'm one, focusing mostly on elemental spells (arcane bolt, arctic something, lightning, cone of fire) and I'm not raping at all. Least of all when I do the battle in Redcliffe. I CANNOT outlive the second wave and I don't understand how anyone could.

It's quite simple - you picked the suxxor skills. Instead of focusing on 1 spell lane and therefore get the most pwn endgame spells immediately you spread out which is only a good idea if you know you get spell combos out of it and therefore powerful end game spells.

Normally if you were a melee fighter your strategy was correct, getting a bit of variation is a good idea because usually there's cooldowns and shit to take care of when fighting. As a mage however, 1 spell that takes all your mana but basically summons the Lord of Darkness that smites 2000 undeads is just a better option.

TL;DR: UR DOIN IT WRONG. I suggest reloading to a point where you did not enter Redcliffe and try to see if you can avoid it getting attacked and level somewhere else with less enemies at a time.

No offense, but I honestly can't see how you wouldn't expect the option to fight Flemeth being there. She's morally gray, and generally, if you see someone with a colored name, the option to fight them is there.

I stand by my "that's not a spoiler" statement.

EDIT: On the other hand, I guess other people might not have expected the option. I guess I'll be more careful next time.

Honestly I never thought of it because she WAS morally gray. Every side in this game is an asshole in some way, Flemeth merely went after people that went after her.

I knew ... though after watching that demonstration, I wish I hadn't because they unnecessarily laid out a bunch of the plot/character stuff there. Hell, they even spoiled Sacred Ashes and that's one of the biggest parts of the plot. Kinda surprising.

Flemeth is Captain Catherine Janeway.

Apparently she went crazy after returning to the Alpha Quadrant and went to go live in a swamp.

...God, I'm such a nerd.

You're kidding, right? You're saying he did it wrong because he didn't magically know what the optimum spell choices were. You see what's fundamentally flawed about that, right?

Basically, he's right though. Even if it is an unfair game mechanic.

Man, this sucks. I don't want shapeshifting. I'm like 20 hours in; I really don't want to reroll. =(

Sorry.

I didn't mean why Cerion was flawed. I meant Dragon Age. The point of Bioware's games like these has always involved some degree of parity between player classes and team formations. To have one class that needs neither a team nor to care about what they're walking into is completely counter-intuitive.

I'm only, like, 2 hours into the game and now I know that, at any level up, a choice could make or break my entire character. That's, like, the definition of "fucking stupid."

Some kind of mid-game respec option probably would have been smart. But it seems that the new shit is to have vital aspects of the game cost extra, so ... expect it in some DLC within a few months.

I really wish we could respec the companions, too. It always turns out that the companions I want to use come with the abilities I wanted to take.

Mad spoilers: Duncan is Master Splinter. Yeah, that's right.

... Well it isn't that hard to figure that the best spells are usually the ones hardest to get?

I'm aware that one mistake can fatally break your character and I agree, I want to find a magic NPC that gives me a pill that makes my head go 'poof!'

Is there any way to know, beforehand, what the combos are? That's where I was talking about just magically knowing shit.

Most of them are listed in the spell tooltips.

EDIT: The more powerful ones are hidden.

Protip: Spell combos only happen within a single spell school. There are 10 total (though I dunno if putting out a fire with blizzard really counts =|), if you don't mind spoiling them then they're all here.

I actually have the requisite spells for a couple of those but haven't tried them, I doubt I would have figured it out myself.

You're right. The hell are those combos.

I'm liking the Shield skills so far. Stuns and Knockdowns combined with increased defense is a beast of a combo. What sucks is that, if I get all the skills I want to get, I'll be running 4 toggles. I don't see that working out too well for me.

That's whut tactics are for. Attacked by range ---> enable shield cover, etc. Actually, I don't think the shield tree toggles overlap for that reason, you're supposed to use them as the situation demands.

I dunno if anyone else bothers with tactics, btw, but I love them as I loved FFXII's gambit system. Only thing I hate is that you don't get nearly enough slots, and spending skill points to get more is an annoying design decision, to me.
