I'm going to Redcliffe first on my second playthrough, just to see what all the fuss is about doing it early.
I got a total Resident Evil 4 NotSpain vibe from [spoiler]Haven. I walked in and was like "I bet crazy cultists attack me in like 30 seconds." Big surprise! I suppose it was also something to do with having already read the 'dragon cults' codex entry.[/spoiler] ![]() Bra Wrote:People are dumb, essentially.

Personally I think redcliffe is one of the easier ones, even as I did it on my rogue, if you do all the boosting( getting the oil from the general store helps a good bit if your tank stands right outside the flames for the first part, and getting Dwyn and his dudes, the archer from the tavern and even the tavern owner if you threaten him to help fight, which I didn't, should all make it a little easier, on top of getting the blacksmith to repair the militia armor)

Speaking of the codexes.
...Ugh. Half the time I don't even really know what I'm doing because I don't want to sit down and read a novel about part of the game. Especially on my 360. What if it redrings while I'm reading?! ![]()

But without the codex, they wouldn't be able to say the playtime was 20-30 more hours than it actually is!

Woh, people actually read non quest essential items in the codex?

I have yet to read an entire codex entry all the way through, and oddly enough, I don't think my understanding of the game or the world within has suffered from it.
11-19-2009, 03:20 AM
I do that in game worlds that I'm interested in, like Mass Effect. But DA ... it's pretty much an overused fantasy world filled with the same elves, dwarves, etc. with subtle changes, so it's like meh.
11-19-2009, 07:54 AM
Dwarves are drastically changed from other fantasy worlds and truly the only reason you feel you haven't missed anything of the world is because you didn't read codexes. All the subtle things in the game you miss and all the developer jokes (like the mage who constantly heard a 'click' sound and felt compelled to do something) and generally you miss a big deal of the game.
That said, DWARVEN NOBLE ORIGIN FTW. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Dwarves are not "drastically changed" from other games. Drastically changed would be if they were shamanistic nomads who lived in cities that floated on top of clouds.
They are slightly different than the LotR cliche, but not by a whole lot. ![]() "It's on my brain, driving me insane. It's on my mind, all of the time, and if it left... I would be fine."
You really think so? The society is divided in 'racial dispute' but it's not racial it's family relationships and each noble has the power to execute anyone he wants by flicking his pinky at the other ones. It truly feels more like (what I would imagine) an orc-like society except there's sometimes honor mixed into the bowl.

Feuding dwarf clans doesn't seem all that different to me. Yeah, it's definitely better than just everyone getting along under one united banner, but... eh.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to belittle the game. It's very well done and very immersive. I just don't like calling things what they're not. ![]() "It's on my brain, driving me insane. It's on my mind, all of the time, and if it left... I would be fine."

Fueding dwarfc clans is not what I was focused at. It's the intensity of the feuds that truly has me laughing my ass of each time you get to answer a question/statement from other family because 9/10 times you get the choice to go 'Servant, whack his ass'. You just have supreme power and you're 'just' a noble and not even the prince-to-be. I never got that from other dwarven cultures. Truth be told I expected everyone of the dwarves to be smithes and shit but they're not. Also this is the only game I've ever played where I can take dwarves somewhat seriously in combat.

People should play Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter.
Dwarves are beastly. ![]() "It's on my brain, driving me insane. It's on my mind, all of the time, and if it left... I would be fine."

Okay fair game never played either of those for more than 30 minutes.

It just annoys me that people think BioWare started at KOTOR.
It actually seems to be a pretty common misconception. ![]() "It's on my brain, driving me insane. It's on my mind, all of the time, and if it left... I would be fine."

I don't think BioWare started at KOTOR, truth be told I didn't even fancy KOTOR that much and I much prefer DA:O to any other game they made. I do wish you'd have a bit more influence of what your party members think though.

I got ambushed on my way to Denerim and was raped five times before I managed to stop the damn arrow volley enough to get my team mates over the bridge and TO THE ARCHERS. >.< [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
![]() ![]() Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.

If it weren't for nostalgia I might say this game was even better than the Baldur's Gate series.
